BookMentors: Connecting donors directly with teachers and students in need of books.

How We Fulfill Our Mission

BookMentors connects teachers, librarians, and students in need of books with donors supporting literacy, reading, and education. Founded by a former urban teacher and literacy coach, BookMentors uses micropatronage—supporting a project by directly donating online—to solve book access problems in high-poverty schools. A platform for anyone passionate about the power of books, BookMentors enables readers, writers, publishers, teachers, and donors to come together to give, get, and talk books.
With a few simple clicks, teachers can request specific book titles and quantities needed for their students, or browse donations. Donors can view the books requested and experience the joy of giving something meaningful to a classroom in need. Payments are processed securely via credit card or PayPal. Email notifications alert users when requests are filled and ultimately shipped. Donors will even receive a thank-you email from the teacher. BookMentors allows donors and teachers to talk directly to one another, and to share and exchange insights on books—this is what makes BookMentors truly special!
Our ability to get books into the hands of those who need them depends on sustainability. When donors contribute books at “list price,” our vendor (Baker & Taylor) sells them to us at a discount. Our goal is that this built-in feature will enable us to more efficiently meet our operating expenses, and to focus more effectively on our purpose.
